Guardians of Fort Kochi (mural)
Ten Fearless Ambassador artists painted this Coast Guard wall mural.
The Guardians of Fort Kochi is a 200-metre mural on the compound wall of the Indian Coast Guard Office, on Calvathy Road. There is no entry fee and no closing time, so you can walk its length whenever you pass. Allow 15 to 20 minutes for the full wall.
The wall was painted in open community sessions. Residents were invited to add their stories and labour to it. Coast Guard personnel, mangrove workers and fishing communities took part alongside the artists.
Shilo Shiv Suleman led the project through Fearless Foundation for the Arts, founded in 2012. Ten Fearless Ambassadors came from India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan and Myanmar to paint it. The foundation has co-created over 52 murals across more than 20 countries. The wall falls under its long-running climate justice focus, titled At the Root. The project closed with a Fearless Feast at the Coast Guard Office gate on Calvathy Road.
