Mocha Art Cafe
Artwork and antiques fill the room.
Mocha Art Café is a café and art gallery in Jew Town, Mattancherry. The doorway is on Synagogue Lane and opens into a white gallery under a timber ceiling. It is open 10am to 8.30pm on weekdays, 9.30am to 9pm on Saturdays and 10am to 9pm on Sundays.
The building dates to the 16th century and was built to house the rabbis of the Paradesi Synagogue. In 1910 a spice trader bought it and turned it into a warehouse. His grandson later converted it into an art café.
Reviewers order the mocha special cold coffee, soup and shrimp with black pepper. One visitor found the paneer sandwich average for the price. To get in, you climb stairs. Maps may send you to the rear entrance. That route runs through a clothing shop. Walk through to its far end, then climb the stairs. Parking is hard to find nearby, and reviewers say prices are on the touristy side. Google lists the café at 4.5 from about 1,800 reviewers.
