Kashi Hallegua House
Contemporary art now fills a 200-year-old Jew Town house.
Kashi Hallegua House is an art gallery in a house more than 200 years old, on Synagogue Road in Jew Town, Mattancherry. Mattancherry was once home to many Jewish families, and the house counts among the major heritage landmarks of Kochi. The house is the venue, so its rooms are the galleries. Check what is on before you walk over, because each show here has its own run of dates.
The building is treated as part of each show rather than a neutral backdrop. Ishara House opened here with Amphibian Aesthetics, which ran from 13 December 2025 to 31 March 2026 and brought together twelve artists and collectives presenting new commissions.
In 2022 the house held Sea A Boiling Vessel, a show that looked at the slave, maritime and migratory histories of Kerala. Edgar Pinto now runs the house as a site for contemporary art and cultural dialogue, alongside the Kashi Art Galleries in Fort Kochi.
