Cat Cuddle Club, is an initiative by Cats of Kochi in transforming how people approach human-cat interactions by nurturing a space where potential cat parents can experience the joy of feline companionship before making a lifelong commitment.
Cats interaction with humans can provide significant mental health benefits. Interacting with cats triggers the release of positive hormones like serotonin, dopamine, and oxytocin, which are associated with good feelings and emotional well-being. These hormonal changes can improve mood and reduce negative emotions. Have you felt better when petting a cat for just a couple of minutes? that's because petting a cat has a calming effect that reduces stress and anxiety. Studies show cat owners have lower cortisol levels and experience decreased anxiety. Cats can help reduce symptoms of depression by providing companionship and distraction during low moods.
And it works both ways! For rescue cats, socialization with humans is vital for their successful integration into homes. Properly socialized cats develop confidence and adapt more easily to new people, animals, activities, and environments
A Sanctuary Designed for Felines
Instead of focusing only on adoption, Cat Cuddle Club prioritizes importance of human cat interactions. The ground floor has been thoughtfully designed with cats in mind—featuring play areas, tree houses, and low-lying desks where humans can interact with the cats and play with them. Use of devices are generally looked down upon by cats :)
This design philosophy reflects the core mission of Cat Cuddle Club: to move from a human-centered approach to a planet-centered one. By creating a space where cats can behave naturally and humans adapt to their environment, visitors experience a profound shift in perspective.
More Than Just Adoption
Cat Cuddle Club serves multiple purposes beyond facilitating adoptions. For those already sharing their lives with cats, it offers a community space to connect with fellow cat parents facing similar challenges and joys. The initiative also provides a sanctuary for those seeking the therapeutic benefits of feline companionship without the long-term commitment.
"If you don't want to adopt them and just want a day away to spend some time with them and be exposed to their love, that's alright too," the human caretaker assures. This approach recognizes the significant emotional benefits that come from interacting with cats, including reduced stress and anxiety.
A Volunteer-Driven Initiative
Currently in its early stages, Cats of Kochi operates as a volunteer initiative, primarily open on weekends in Fort Kochi's central area. Visitors can schedule time to spend with the cats, either individually or with family and friends.

Nurturing human cat interactions
What makes Cat Cuddle Club truly unique is its recognition that adopting a cat should not be an emotional decision alone —one that should be entered into with full awareness and one step at a time. By providing a space where potential adopters can experience the reality of living with cats before making a commitment, the Club helps ensure that adoptions are successful and permanent.
