Uncanny: The Quiet Rusty Sign

Rust stains echo fading memories. Ash and jute speak of war's violence. Two artists transform decay into temporal progression, where the familiar becomes strange.

Every surface carries a story of time passing—rust stains left by metal, mold-like textures, stones embedded in hands that once stood for pride. The familiar becomes uncanny.

About

Uncanny: The Quiet Rusty Sign brings together two artists employing rusted materials as symbolic indicators of temporal progression.

Sania Fathima presents a worn, distressed graduation gown made from rust-dyed muslin, layered with hand embroidery, sashiko stitches, and patchwork. Every surface tells of time passing—rust stains, mold-like textures echoing fading memories.

Arun S works with ash and rust on jute, representing endings, decay, and inevitability. His work reflects on senseless violence and loss caused by wars—emotions surging and subsiding like ashes slipping through fingers.

Together: two meditations on what time does to us, and what we carry forward.
