Rawal Lassi Joint

No seating — drink your mango lassi standing at the counter.

A small roadside shop with a tiled roof and a blue corrugated awning stands on a paved street. A person in a pink shirt stands inside the open front counter area. A large red sign with images of drinks is placed on the counter. A bicycle is parked on the left side of the shop. Overhead, numerous electrical wires crisscross against a bright sky. To the right, a closed metal shutter is visible, decorated with a garland of yellow and orange flowers.

Rawal Lassi Joint is a small lassi counter on Palace Road in Mattancherry, opposite Vijaya Lakshmi Bhavan. It opens 8am to 9pm Monday to Saturday and 8am to 12 noon on Sunday.

There is no seating, so you drink standing at the counter. Visitors have paid ₹40 for the special lassi, a blend of curd, sugar and cardamom, and ₹60 for the mango lassi. The mango lassi depends on fresh mangoes, so it comes and goes with the season. Strawberry and gulkand flavours have run out on some visits, and one visitor found the lassi colder than other cold drinks. One reviewer picked out the dry fruits lassi for its thick texture and a sweetness that is not overpowering.

Our picks: Special Thick Lassi and Mango Lassi (seasonal).
