Puthanthodu Beach
Half a kilometre of quiet sand, almost nobody stops here.
Puthenthodu Beach is a short stretch of sand at the northern end of the Chellanam sea wall, near Kannamaly in Ernakulam district.
The first phase of the wall runs from Chellanam harbour and ends at this beach, so the footpath along its top finishes here. The wall is just over 7 km of granite and concrete tetrapods, the four-legged blocks that break the waves. Houses stand on the land side of the wall. Look at where the blocks stop. That is the point where the next stretch of wall would begin.
In 2022 the state chose breakwaters for Puthenthodu and Chellanam Bazar, after a scientific study of the coast. Houses near the beach are patched each summer before the monsoon, a resident told a newspaper in May 2026.
The second phase is meant to extend the wall north from here. It had not taken off by May 2026, two months after its March inauguration.
