According to a local legend at Cranganore (Kodungallur), St. Thomas and the goddess Bhagavadi debated the merits of Christianity and Hinduism at Palliport. When Bhagavadi fled to her temple and tried to shut its door, St. Thomas wedged his foot between the door and doorpost. Neither yielded, and the door supposedly turned to stone in that half-closed position, where it remains today.
